With the holiday season in full swing, the Town of Murphy is preparing for two beloved traditions: the annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday evening and the Christmas Parade on Saturday evening. Despite forecasts calling for possible wintry weather later this week, Mayor Tim Radford says both events are currently planned to go ahead as scheduled.

“We’re keeping a close eye on the weather forecasts for this Friday’s Christmas Tree Lighting and Saturday’s Christmas Parade,” Mayor Radford said in a statement released Monday. “As of now, both events are still planned to take place as scheduled.”

Town officials are monitoring conditions hour by hour and will make a final call no later than noon the day before each event if weather forces a postponement or cancellation.

“If the weather forces a change, the town will make a final decision by noon the day before each event,” Radford continued. “Any updates or schedule changes will be announced through local media to keep the community informed.”

Residents are encouraged to watch local radio, television, the Town of Murphy’s Facebook page, and the town website for the latest updates as the weekend approaches.

The Christmas Tree Lighting is set for Friday at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Murphy, followed by the Christmas Parade on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. with the route going from the Valley Village Shopping Center to the L&N Depot.

Organizers say they are hopeful the weather will cooperate so families can enjoy these long-standing community celebrations without interruption.
