Murphy sweeps Hayesville in midweek basketball action

Hayesville’s home-court success against Murphy came to an end Wednesday night as the Bulldogs swept a girls-boys doubleheader, handing both the Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets decisive losses.

The Hayesville Lady Jackets saw a three-game home winning streak against Murphy snapped with a 52-41 loss to the Lady Bulldogs. Hayesville was unable to duplicate its earlier-season success, when it defeated Murphy 37-25.

The loss dropped Hayesville’s record to 16-8. Murphy, meanwhile, earned its second straight victory and improved to 11-9 on the season. Hayesville has no additional games currently scheduled. Murphy will return to action quickly, facing Robbinsville at 6:30 p.m. Thursday with little rest after Wednesday’s contest.

In the boys game, Murphy delivered a dominant performance, rolling past the host Hayesville Yellow Jackets 88-56 in a Big Smoky Conference matchup. Bulldogs fans were happy on the drive back to Cherokee County from the Hive.

Murphy improved to 17-3 with the win and will now prepare for a key conference showdown against Robbinsville. The Black Knights enter the contest with a 19-3 record after routing Rosman 66-27 in their most recent league outing.

Hayesville now awaits scheduling and seeding in the SMC tournament.
