Officials Urge Preparedness as Forecast Calls for Potential Ice Storm

Union County residents are being urged to prepare for potentially dangerous winter weather this weekend as meteorologists continue to monitor a system that could bring significant icing to the area.

According to Union County officials, a consensus among multiple meteorologists over the past several days indicates the possibility of an ice storm developing late Saturday and continuing into Sunday. If the forecast holds, the storm could rival some of the most severe ice events the region has experienced in the past 20 years.

Forecast models currently show precipitation amounts that could fall as rain or snow depending on temperature fluctuations. While either outcome would be preferable to freezing rain, officials warn that ice remains the primary concern, particularly due to the risk of black ice on roadways.

County crews plan to take proactive measures by treating roads ahead of the storm. However, officials caution that ice presents unique hazards that cannot be fully eliminated, even with preparation.

“Road treatment can reduce risk, but it cannot remove it entirely,” officials noted, emphasizing that drivers should remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel if conditions deteriorate.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for the worst-case scenario while hoping for more favorable weather outcomes. Preparation may include securing essential supplies, checking heating sources, and staying informed through reliable weather updates.

Union County officials will continue monitoring conditions and providing updates as the weekend approaches.
