Stolen Side-by-Side Recovered; Multiple Charges Filed Following Investigation

On August 1, 2026, Deputy Blomgren with Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a stolen 2009 Polaris Ranger from a residence on Olive Branch Way.

During the investigation, deputies learned that Joseph Whitener was suspected of taking the vehicle without permission. Messages sent by Whitener to the victim acknowledged he had borrowed the side-by-side and requested that law enforcement not be contacted. Based on the investigation, warrants were obtained charging Whitener with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.

On August 2, 2026, deputies received information regarding the possible location of the stolen vehicle. While checking the area, Deputy Blomgren located the Polaris Ranger at a residence on U.S. Highway 64 West. The vehicle's VIN confirmed it was the stolen side-by-side, and it was safely returned to its owner.

While recovering the vehicle, deputies encountered Robin Stalcup, who fled on foot into a wooded area. After a brief pursuit, Stalcup was taken into custody. During the booking process at the Cherokee County Detention Center, detention staff discovered suspected methamphetamine and Suboxone concealed on his person. The suspected methamphetamine later field-tested positive.

Robin Stalcup was charged with Resist, Delay, and Obstruct, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of a Controlled Substance on Jail Premises. He was also served with outstanding felony probation warrants.
