HIAWASSEE, Ga. — The Towns County Recreation Department has been named the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) District 7 Agency of the Year, recognizing the department’s outstanding service and community impact.
The award was presented last week at the GRPA District 7 Banquet, where Recreation Director Stuart Nichols, Assistant Director Will Banister, and Athletic Coordinator Chris Cannon accepted the honor from District 7 Chairman Kirk Franz.
“This award is completely a team effort,” Nichols said in a statement. “From the administration, to all the staff, community members, coaches, parents, and the amazing kids in our programs — we are working hard to provide the best place to live with the best Parks and Recreation Department possible.”
Nichols added that the department is continuing to expand its offerings. “This is just the beginning,” he said. “We have many other programs and opportunities we’re working on to keep improving your Parks & Rec Department.”
The GRPA’s District 7 includes recreation agencies from across northeast Georgia. The annual award recognizes excellence in community programming, facility management, and service to residents.
Nichols thanked the GRPA and the Towns County community for their continued support.
