HIAWASSEE, Ga. — The Towns County Sheriff's Office reports continued progress across multiple areas of operation in recent weeks, emphasizing training, interagency cooperation and community outreach.
According to a recent update, the agency’s Criminal Investigations Division met with Ben Johnson of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Unit. During the visit, Johnson presented appreciation coins recognizing collaborative efforts tied to the Morales case, highlighting ongoing partnerships between agencies.
Training remains a key focus for the department. Deputies recently completed firearms qualifications to maintain readiness and ensure safe service to the community. In addition, Deputy Marc Burnette graduated from K-9 training at Custom Canine Academy, expanding the agency’s operational capabilities.
Within the Detention Division, staff members Tonja Davenport and Louie Mort completed the Georgia Sheriffs' Association Jail School, demonstrating a commitment to professional development and secure facility operations.
Residents may also notice a new addition to patrol vehicles: commemorative decals marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, intended to honor the nation’s founding principles and the role of law enforcement in upholding them.
Sheriff Anthony Coleman has also continued community outreach efforts, recently speaking to the Rotary Club about his career and the mission and structure of the Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say the agency remains focused on continuous improvement, strengthening partnerships and delivering a high level of service to Towns County residents.
