Young Harris, Ga. — The Towns County Sheriff's Office has acquired more than $15,000 worth of body armor and ballistic shields through a donation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Redstone Arsenal facility in Huntsville, Alabama.
The donation includes eight sets of body armor with carriers, eight sets of heavy ceramic plate body armor and two ballistic shields. The equipment will provide additional protection for deputies responding to high-risk incidents, active threats and other dangerous situations.
"The safety of our deputies and the citizens we serve remains our highest priority," Sheriff Anthony Coleman said in a statement. "This generous donation from the FBI Redstone Arsenal provides our deputies with equipment that can save lives during critical incidents. These resources strengthen our ability to respond effectively to dangerous situations while continuing to provide the highest level of service and protection to the people of Towns County."
The acquisition highlights ongoing partnerships between federal and local law enforcement agencies to bolster officer safety and operational readiness. Sheriff Coleman expressed appreciation to Bryce Fankhauser and Patrick Stokes of the FBI Redstone Arsenal for their assistance in facilitating the donation. He also recognized Investigator Brad Exum for his efforts in coordinating the transfer.
"This donation is a testament to what can be accomplished through strong professional relationships and a shared commitment to public safety," Coleman added. "We are fortunate to have partners who understand the importance of equipping law enforcement officers with the tools necessary to keep both deputies and citizens safe."
The Towns County Sheriff's Office said it will continue seeking partnerships to enhance public safety and ensure deputies have the resources needed to serve the community.
