Press Release
On July 3, 2026, at approximately 12:40 a.m., members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling along U.S. 64 after observing multiple traffic violations.
During the investigation, deputies determined that a rear-seat passenger, Michael Moore of Acworth, Georgia, was wanted on an outstanding felony probation violation warrant from Georgia. The underlying offenses included possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and interference with government property. Moore was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators learned the vehicle was traveling from the Atlanta area and that occupants provided inconsistent travel itineraries, a factor commonly associated with possible drug-trafficking activity. Agents also developed probable cause to search the vehicle after learning marijuana was present inside.
During the search, agents located a purse belonging to another rear-seat passenger. Inside the purse, investigators found drug paraphernalia and a quantity of suspected narcotics. The substance later field-tested positive for cocaine.
The female passenger initially provided the identity of another individual and was arrested for possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Later that day, agents determined the female had intentionally used another person’s identity and positively identified her as Amber Brake Paskell.
Agents also confirmed PASKELL was wanted on an outstanding felony fugitive warrant out of Jackson County, North Carolina, in connection with a probation violation from Georgia.
PASKELL was subsequently charged with:
• Identity Theft
• Resisting a Public Officer
• Possession of Cocaine
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Felony Probation Violation (outstanding warrant served)
The original charges filed under the false identity will be dismissed, and all charges will proceed under Paskell’s true identity.
Sheriff Chris Wood commended the Narcotics Division for its work in the case.
“This is exactly why proactive enforcement matters. What began as a traffic stop resulted in the apprehension of wanted fugitives, the seizure of illegal drugs, and the identification of someone attempting to use another person’s identity to avoid accountability. Our deputies and agents stay alert, follow the facts, and take action when criminal activity is uncovered.”
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
