Union County Firefighter Completes Specialized Water Mapping Training at GPSTC

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — The Union County Fire Department announced that Firefighter Conner Cook has successfully completed an intensive 8-hour Water Mapping course at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC).

The specialized training focused on modern fire behavior and the critical role that firefighting tactics and water application techniques play during interior fire operations. Participants received both classroom instruction and hands-on practical training, studying how different suppression methods affect heat conditions, firefighter safety, occupant survivability, and overall fire dynamics inside structures.

The course placed strong emphasis on proper water stream application and strategic fire attack methods designed to improve operational effectiveness in today’s evolving fire environment.

“Training like this is critical as the fire service continues to adapt to changing building construction and fire behavior,” said Union County Fire Chief David Dyer. “Firefighter Cook’s commitment to continuing education helps strengthen our department’s ability to operate safely and effectively on the fireground.”

By completing the course, Firefighter Cook has gained advanced knowledge of fire dynamics and suppression tactics, further enhancing the Union County Fire Department’s operational readiness and its ongoing commitment to protecting the community.

Union County Fire & Rescue continues to prioritize professional development for its personnel to ensure the highest standards of public safety across the area.
