Union County Firefighters Complete Advanced Vehicle Rescue Training

Firefighters with Union County Fire & Rescue spent two days sharpening life-saving skills during a specialized auto extrication training held March 14–15.

The department partnered with the North American Vehicle Rescue Association (NAVRA) to deliver the hands-on course, which focused on both foundational techniques and newer methods used in emergency vehicle rescues.

During the training, firefighters reviewed core extrication principles while also learning updated strategies and becoming familiar with advanced tools designed to improve response times and patient safety in crash situations.

Instruction was led by retired fire service professionals Neal de Jesus and Ricky Fernandez, who volunteered their time to work directly with local crews.

NAVRA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing emergency responders for evolving challenges in the field. The group relies on experienced and retired industry experts to provide training in innovative rescue techniques and modern equipment.

Union County Fire & Rescue officials said they were honored to take part in the class, emphasizing the importance of ongoing training to ensure firefighters are prepared to respond effectively when lives are on the line.
