BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — The Union County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $55,917 High Visibility Enforcement grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to support efforts aimed at reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities on Georgia roads.
The funding, provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will be used for equipment purchases and to offset the cost of salaries for deputies assigned to the program. The grant will run through September 2026.
According to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, High Visibility Enforcement programs focus on combating unsafe driving behaviors that contribute to serious and fatal crashes, such as speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving. The initiative supports statewide campaigns such as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket.”
Sheriff Shawn Dyer said his office continues to make it a priority to find alternative ways to fund local law enforcement operations without increasing the burden on taxpayers. Over his first 10 months in office, the Sheriff’s Office has secured $167,113.26 in grants and partnerships, providing new equipment, training and salary offsets at little to no cost to the community.
The Sheriff’s Office plans to continue seeking grant opportunities and partnerships to expand training and improve resources for deputies while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
