Staff Report
The Union County Sheriff’s Office has added two new deputies to its ranks following their completion of a 20-week Basic Law Enforcement Academy at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.
Deputy Morgan Gay and Deputy Paul Leird finished more than 800 hours of instruction covering core areas of law enforcement. Both have worked with the agency as detention officers since 2023 and now move into the next phase of their careers.
With the academy complete, the deputies will begin a three- to four-month Field Training and Evaluation Program at the Sheriff’s Office. The training period will place them under the guidance of at least three field training officers who will assess their performance and prepare them for full patrol duties.
The agency noted the commitment required for the 20 weeks spent in Forsyth and recognized the continued effort the deputies will invest as they transition into field training. The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging the community to welcome its two newest deputies as they begin serving Union County in their expanded roles.
