BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Union County officials will open the doors of the newly completed 911 Communication Center to the public from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, allowing residents to tour the facility before it becomes fully operational.

The building, which houses the county’s Public Safety Answering Point, is finished after construction began in May 2025. It will serve as the home for Union County 911 dispatch, Union County Mapping and secure storage for multiple county departments and offices.

Dispatchers at the center answer 911 calls and coordinate emergency response for public safety agencies. Officials said the new facility and its upgraded technology are intended to improve the speed and reliability of those communications.

As construction progressed, the county finalized contracts for essential systems, including Next Generation 911 call handling, 911 telephone equipment, public safety radio systems, computer-aided dispatch, administrative phone lines, high-speed fiber, call and radio recording equipment, dispatch consoles and mapping services. Those systems were installed during construction. Thorough testing is scheduled to begin soon to confirm they work together before the center goes live.

The project is funded entirely through the county’s existing 1% special local option sales tax. County officials said the new building and equipment will provide more efficient emergency communications and a more secure location for the service.

The open house is scheduled for Thursday at the new Union County 911 Communication Center. Union County Fire and Rescue provided the information.
