HIAWASSEE, Ga. — A 25-year-old Woodstock resident drowned Saturday morning while swimming at Lake Chatuge, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Law Enforcement Division.

Game wardens responded to a possible drowning at 4 a.m. in a cove at Lake Chatuge in Towns County. Brek Lewis Green was swimming with a friend, both using individual flotation devices, when they reached a dock to head inside. The friend briefly went inside after Green reportedly declined to follow, officials said.

Upon returning, the friend found Green missing. Towns County Fire and EMS located Green’s float at a dock across the cove. Game wardens used SONAR to search the area and found Green at approximately 11:45 a.m. in 13 feet of water, about 40 feet from the dock.

Georgia DNR, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and Towns County search and rescue dive team personnel recovered Green’s body at noon. The Towns County Coroner took custody of the body.
