Bulldogs Dominate Cherokee Braves in 35-0 Shutout

CHEROKEE, N.C. — The Murphy Bulldogs showcased their offensive prowess and defensive tenacity, rolling to a 35-0 victory over the Cherokee Braves in a Smoky Mountain Conference football game on Friday, Sept. 27, at Cherokee High School.
The Bulldogs (3-2, 2-0 Smoky Mountain) set the tone early, scoring 14 points in the first quarter and adding seven more in the second to take a commanding 21-0 lead at halftime. Murphy’s relentless attack continued in the third quarter with two additional touchdowns, sealing the shutout against the Braves (2-4, 0-2 Smoky Mountain 1A/2A).
Murphy’s balanced offensive approach overwhelmed Cherokee’s defense, while their stout defensive unit stifled the Braves, preventing any scoring opportunities. The Bulldogs’ dominance was evident as they controlled the line of scrimmage and capitalized on key plays throughout the game.
The Braves struggled to find rhythm offensively, unable to penetrate Murphy’s defense, which recorded its first shutout of the season. Cherokee’s record dropped to 2-4 following the loss.
Looking ahead, Murphy returns home to face the Rosman Tigers (2-4, 0-2 Smoky Mountain) on Friday, Oct. 3. The Tigers are coming off a 54-14 defeat to Hayesville. Meanwhile, Cherokee will travel to face Hayesville (4-2, 1-1 Smoky Mountain), who are riding momentum from their recent blowout win over Rosman.
With this decisive victory, the Bulldogs solidify their position in the Smoky Mountain Conference standings, setting the stage for a critical stretch of games as they push for a strong finish in league play.
