Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Conducts Joint Tactical Training in Andrews

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office who are trained at the basic and advanced SWAT levels joined the Cherokee Tribal Police Department’s tactical team for specialized training in Andrews.

The teams utilized a home that is scheduled for demolition by fire to conduct realistic training focused on room clearing, close-quarters tactics, and other skills necessary for safely responding to critical incidents in residential environments.

Training in an actual structure provides our personnel with valuable experience that cannot always be replicated in a traditional training environment. These exercises help our teams sharpen their skills, improve communication and coordination, and remain prepared to protect the citizens we serve when faced with dangerous and rapidly changing situations.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Valleytown Fire Department Chief Justin Hyde for reaching out to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and providing access to the home for this training opportunity.

Partnerships like this allow our law enforcement and public safety agencies to work together to enhance preparedness and ultimately improve the safety of our communities.
