Runners of all experience levels are invited to lace up their shoes for the upcoming Hiawassee Half Marathon & 5K, set in the heart of North Georgia’s scenic mountain region on Saturday, March 14th.
The event will start and finish in the charming Hiawassee Town Square, located at 19 S. Main St. in downtown Hiawassee, and offers participants a picturesque road race highlighting the area’s mountain-lake beauty. Both the half marathon and 5K courses feature stunning views of Lake Chatuge, with the half marathon providing runners a full 360-degree tour around the lake’s shoreline.
Organizers say the race’s primarily flat terrain and well-maintained road surfaces make it an ideal event for seasoned runners aiming for a fast time, as well as newcomers looking to enjoy a scenic and approachable course.
Race day will begin with the Half Marathon at 7:30 a.m., which carries a four-hour time limit, equivalent to an 18 minute, 20 second per-mile pace. The 5K will follow at 8:30 a.m.
Beyond the race itself, the event supports a meaningful cause. All proceeds benefit Hikeawassee, a free shuttle service that assists hikers along the Appalachian Trail.
