Hiawassee Native Named to Hall of Fame

HIAWASSEE, Ga. — Alan Kendall, a Hiawassee native and baritone vocalist for the Kingsmen Quartet, has been inducted into the Georgia Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame for his contributions to the genre.

Kendall joined the legendary Kingsmen Quartet in August 2018. He has since expanded his role beyond singing to serve as the group’s emcee, arranger, promoter and occasional songwriter.

Before joining the Kingsmen, Kendall performed with the Melody Boys Quartet, Freedom, the Rebels Quartet and Jordan’s Bridge, and as a soloist. His appreciation for the heritage of Southern gospel music and commitment to carrying that tradition forward have earned him respect from audiences and fellow artists.

He serves on the board of directors of the Southern Gospel Music Association and Hall of Fame and writes a monthly column, “Game Changers,” for Singing News magazine. Kendall has called it a privilege to perform alongside and learn from Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame members Ray Dean Reese and Gerald Williams.

Kendall authored the book Decades of Music, Decades of Memories about the Kingsmen. A second volume is in the works. He is also an avid vinyl record collector, a passion he shares with his father, Jerry.

Kendall and his wife, Savannah, are members of Beulah Baptist Church in Douglasville and are the parents of two daughters, Evie and Belle.

Industry observers note that while older legends are often celebrated for blazing trails, Kendall already serves as a mentor and role model for many younger artists. His commitment to excellence, love for Southern gospel music and service to the industry continue to leave a lasting impact.
