Press Release
The Towns County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, announces the arrest of Joshua Emmett Robertson, a 38-year-old male, following a multi-jurisdictional investigation involving allegations of sexual exploitation of a minor and related offenses.
On November 5, 2025, Towns County deputies responded to a report regarding the possible theft of a firearm from a family member. During the investigation at Robertson’s home, the investigators observed drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana. As the investigation progressed, evidence was developed indicating potential sexual criminal activity involving Robertson and a 15-year-old juvenile living at the residence. A search warrant was obtained, which resulted in the discovery of illegal narcotics and digital evidence suggesting inappropriate and unlawful conduct with the minor.
Due to the age of the juvenile victim, the Department of Family and Children Services was immediately notified, and the juvenile was placed in protective care. A forensic interview was conducted, during which the juvenile disclosed a sexual relationship with the suspect.
Further digital forensic analysis revealed additional evidence, including images and video files of a sexual nature involving the juvenile. Investigators determined that several of the criminal acts occurred within Rabun County, leading to the issuance of arrest warrants in both jurisdictions.
During the course of the investigation, the suspect fled the State of Georgia. Through coordinated efforts between the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia, the suspect was located and taken into custody in West Virginia, where additional warrants were also active.
Following court proceedings, the suspect was extradited to Georgia to face charges in both Towns County and Rabun County.
Due to the age of the victim, no further identifying information will be released. The Towns County Sheriff’s Office commends the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, and all assisting agencies for their professionalism and cooperation in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion.
This investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Towns County Sheriff’s Office.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
