MountainTrue will host a volunteer workday to remove nonnative invasive plants along the Murphy Riverwalk in partnership with the Town of Murphy.
The event will focus on removing species such as Chinese privet, bittersweet and multiflora rose. Volunteers will primarily pull roots and use hand tools to clear invasive plants from the area. Organizers said tasks of varying difficulty will be available, and participants do not need to be capable of strenuous physical labor to take part.
No prior experience is required. Tools and training will be provided on site.
The workday will be held at 4 Railroad Street in Murphy. A rain date is scheduled for Feb. 7, 2026, and participants are encouraged to save both dates.
Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the event. Pets will not be permitted.
All participants are eligible to receive a complimentary annual membership to MountainTrue. Volunteers can activate their membership by emailing members@mountaintrue.org.
