ree

HIAWASSEE, Ga. — The Towns County Sheriff's Office is gearing up for its annual Christmas Parade as the holiday season approaches, inviting community members to participate in a festive procession themed "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas."

The event is set for Nov. 29, starting at 5:30 p.m. Lineup begins at 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, with all entries required to be fully decorated by 5 p.m. if competing in the float contest.

Organizers emphasized that no entry fee is required, though donations to the Shop With the Sheriff program are welcome. Judging for the contest will focus on how well entries capture the parade's theme.

To ensure a safe and family-friendly atmosphere, all parade entries must be well-lit. Children under 18 must be supervised by an adult at all times. Floats and vehicles cannot feature Santa Claus, as the figure will appear at the rear of the parade as the grand finale to avoid confusing young children.

Political floats or vehicles are prohibited, along with any items or clothing displaying obscene political, sexual language or content that attacks or demeans an individual or group.

Those interested in participating should contact the Towns County Sheriff's Office with details. For questions, call 706-896-4444.
