Union County Clarifies Road Mowing Responsibilities

Blairsville, GA – In response to concerns raised by several citizens about road mowing along county routes, the Union County Road Department has issued a public notice outlining its maintenance duties and clarifying which highways fall under state jurisdiction.

The department operates three mowing crews dedicated to maintaining Union County roads. However, the following major highways are maintained by the state and are not the responsibility of the county:

  • Highway 129 (both North and South of Blairsville)

  • Highway 515 (from Young Harris to the Fannin County line)

  • Highway 325

Residents are encouraged to direct any questions or concerns regarding mowing on these state-maintained routes to the appropriate state authorities. For general inquiries about county road maintenance, the public can contact the Union County Road Department office at 706-439-6000.

The notice comes as part of ongoing efforts to keep the community informed about local services amid the active growing season in the North Georgia mountains. Proper roadside mowing helps improve visibility, reduce fire hazards, and maintain the appearance of the area’s scenic roadways.
