Union County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bob Calamari has been awarded the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal by the Sons of the American Revolution in recognition of his extensive efforts to combat fraud and protect residents from financial scams.
Calamari joined the Sheriff’s Office in January 2023 after a long career in the United States Marine Corps, where he retired at the rank of Sergeant Major. Following his military service, he worked in law enforcement in California and Florida before settling in Union County.
Initially assigned to the Courthouse Division, Calamari later requested a more challenging role and was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division. Drawing on prior investigative experience, he began focusing on fraud and scam cases, an area that quickly became a centerpiece of his work.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Calamari’s efforts have led to the recovery or prevention of more than $300,000 in scam-related losses in 2025 alone. His work includes investigating cases, meeting daily with residents affected or threatened by scams, and helping victims recover stolen funds.
In addition to investigations, Calamari has prioritized public education. He has hosted more than a dozen Scam and Fraud Awareness classes — some attended by nearly 100 people — coordinated with local law enforcement agencies, worked with banks and civic groups, and partnered with newspaper and radio outlets to warn the public about emerging scams.
Sheriff’s Office officials said Calamari’s dedication has made a measurable impact on protecting the community and reducing financial losses caused by increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes.
The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for Calamari’s service and encouraged the public to join in congratulating him on the well-deserved honor.
