Young Harris Sweeps Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas Action

The Young Harris College Mountain Lions earned a Conference Carolinas sweep of Lees-McRae on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 7, picking up decisive wins in both women’s and men’s basketball at the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.
The Mountain Lions women led from start to finish in a 69-59 victory over the Bobcats. Young Harris set the tone early with a 21-point opening quarter and never relinquished the lead, improving to 16-5 overall and 10-3 in Conference Carolinas play. Lees-McRae fell to 15-6 overall and 11-4 in the league.
A balanced scoring effort and dominance in the paint proved key for Young Harris, which outscored Lees-McRae 42-30 inside and held a 38-28 advantage on the boards.
In the men’s game, Young Harris delivered a wire-to-wire performance in a 91-62 Conference Carolinas win over the Bobcats. The Mountain Lions took control early, building a 42-29 halftime lead before pulling away in the second half.
Young Harris scored 49 points after the break and shot better than 60 percent in the second half to secure the win. The Mountain Lions improved to 15-6 overall and 11-2 in Conference Carolinas play, while Lees-McRae dropped to 9-14 overall and 6-9 in league action.
Young Harris will continue Conference Carolinas play Tuesday, Feb. 10, hosting Shorter at the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.
