CLAY COUNTY, NC – On October 2, the Clay County Sheriff's Office conducted a rescue operation, saving multiple dogs from severe neglect as part of an ongoing animal abuse investigation. The dogs, found chained and starving in deplorable conditions, were victims of gross negligence by their owner, according to authorities.

The Sheriff's Office described the scene as one of extreme hardship, with the animals living in filth and unable to escape their dire circumstances. In response, deputies collaborated with Big Bear Veterinary Clinic and the Valley River Humane Society to provide immediate care for the dogs. Efforts are now underway to find responsible adopters who can offer the animals a safe and loving home.
Sheriff’s officials issued a stern reminder to pet owners: “If you cannot take care of your pet, please don’t make it suffer. Surrender it to the Humane Society before law enforcement gets involved.” The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that animal abuse is unacceptable and urged the public to act responsibly to prevent such cases.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released further details about potential charges against the owner. The Clay County Sheriff's Office, Big Bear Vet, and Valley River Humane Society are working together to ensure the rescued dogs receive the care and support they need for a second chance at a healthy life.
