After a season plagued by repeated rainouts and mounting uncertainty about its future, Tri-County Racetrack is set to return to action in 2026 with new promoter Randy McCoy leading the charge.

The high-banked clay oval, a beloved destination for race fans and drivers in the tri-state area, faced serious questions earlier this year when last season’s promoters announced they would not return. The persistent weather woes of 2025 had already frustrated the racing community, leading many to fear the historic North Carolina dirt track might remain silent this year.

Those concerns were laid to rest on April 18 when McCoy officially signed the paperwork to take over promotion of the track. Since then, he has been working tirelessly to prepare the facility for a full return to racing.

An open practice is scheduled for Friday, May 1, giving drivers their first opportunity to shake down their cars ahead of the upcoming season.

“We will give it our best shot,” McCoy said. “I just want to give drivers a place to race and a place for folks to come out and have a good time.”

McCoy’s swift action has been enthusiastically received by the local racing community, which sees Tri-County as more than just a racetrack — it’s a cherished gathering spot for families, friends, and motorsports enthusiasts from across the region. The new promoter has pledged to prioritize consistent scheduling and fan-friendly events, working to restore excitement after last year’s challenges.

Details on the full 2026 schedule, ticket prices, and opening night events are expected to be released in the coming days. Fans are encouraged to follow the track’s social media channels for the latest updates.

For racing fans in western North Carolina, northeast Georgia, and southeast Tennessee, the message is loud and clear: the engines are firing up again at Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown.
