Two Hayesville Residents Arrested on Multiple Drug Trafficking Charges Following Traffic Stop

On 01/15/26 at 10:20 PM Clay County Lt. Tyler Faggard and Officer Sean Stout conducted a traffic stop of a Toyota truck at the intersection of McDonald Road and NC Highway 69 in Hayesville. Steven Douglas Anderson, 28 years of age from Hayesville, was found to be the driver of the truck. Haley Cheyenne Goode, 27 years of age from Hayesville, was a passenger in the truck.
Anderson was known to the Officers to have been on probation for significant illegal drug offenses out of Georgia. A search of the truck by consent was conducted by Lt. Faggard, Officer Stout, and joined by Clay County Sgt Aly Daniel. Approximately one ounce of methamphetamine was found in the truck between where Anderson and Goode had been seated.
Also recovered as a result of search activities were the controlled substances alprazolam, hydromorphone, and MDMA. Anderson and Goode were both arrested and each charged with two counts of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for Drugs, and Simple Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. Anderson was issued a $350,000 secured bond for his release. Goode was issued at $250,000 secured bond for her release.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
