YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — Young Harris College will host its annual Fall Fest on Oct. 30, inviting families and Halloween enthusiasts to trick-or-treat across the campus amid a lineup of food trucks, live music and traditional Appalachian dances.
The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. on the college's campus. Participants are encouraged to arrive in costumes, whether for children or adults, to join the festive trick-or-treating organized by college staff and students.
Food trucks will offer a variety of local and seasonal eats, while musicians provide entertainment throughout the evening. Adding to the Appalachian flavor, instructors from the nearby John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina, will lead sessions in barn dancing and square dancing, drawing on the school's century-old tradition of preserving regional folk arts.
Established in 1925, the folk school has long emphasized community gatherings centered on music and movement, hosting regular contra and square dance events that emphasize accessibility for all skill levels. The school's involvement highlights the close-knit cultural ties between Young Harris College and the surrounding mountain communities.
Young Harris College, a private liberal arts institution founded in 1886, regularly opens its campus to the public for events that blend education, recreation and regional heritage. Fall Fest serves as a highlight of the school's community outreach, fostering connections among students, alumni and local residents in the Enchanted Valley.
